Taiwanese artist Yutie Lee delves deep into a rich cultural history of Chinese folk songs — adding a touch of experimental production flair — with Flower Protocol. The songs of this LP originate in a time long before modernity, embodying both a bucolic innocence and, transformed by Lee’s vocal doubling and manipulations into alien sounds for a dystopian landscape. Discs two and three of this 3 LP set find Lee’s alchemical approach furthered by remixes from the likes of Alva Noto and Oceanic.
