As part of WRWTFWW’s Motohiko Hamase series, the Swiss label get together a new edition of his unusual 1993 record Technodrome. Hamase’s stated aim with these eight tracks was to create ambient house, but the compositions are far too busy and quixotic to comfortably fit that term. Utilising the skills he learned in his previous life as a jazz bassist, Hamase puts together a set of scurrying rhythm tracks here which come off like Weather Report hopping on a Herbie Hancock LP from the latter’s electronic fusion-funk period.
