Finlay Shakespeare furthers his case as one of the most delightfully idiosyncratic artists in modern British electronic music with his new LP Solemnities. The instrumentals here largely inhabit a maximalist dance-pop sphere, one that’s kind of like Hot Chip if they had a bit more of a disposition towards acid sounds. The comparisons with Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard and the rest are furthered by the impassioned, heart-on-sleeve vocals that Shakespeare delivers throughout Solemnities. The end result comes out not dissimilar to Reckonwrong.
