For a little over a decade before its closure in 2009, label Toytronic in essence reinvented the sound of modern IDM; bleeped out, bass heavy and cerebral. Martin Haidinger and Chris Cunningham, far from being remote label heads in an ivory tower, can count themselves among the fray of innovators under their moniker Abfahrt Hinwil. Their sole full-length release, 2002’s Links Berge Rechts Seen, acts as a compilation of wide-eyed invention of what electronic music was, and indeed, what it was to become, from the Aphex evolutions of ‘Bumperstufe2’, to the space aged ambient excursions of ‘The Light’.
