Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher may be one of the year's most anticipated albums, but such great expectations don't appear to have thrown the rapidly rising singer-songwriter off her stride. This is another set of tender and emotionally intelligent tunes from Bridgers in which a core style of grungy and emotional rock is augmented by influences from folk and dream-pop. Driving numbers like ‘Kyoto’ owe plenty to The Smashing Pumpkins, but there is Kate & Anna McGarrigle and Beirut in here too. Punisher boasts an impressive array of guest features - as well as Bridgers’ pals Conor Oberst, Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker we also find contributions from Blake Mills and Nick Zinner here.
