Pablo R. Ruiz returns to Portage Garage Sounds for the first time since 2017 with new EP Estados Criminales. Given that this record is made up of lo-fi 707-led house joints, you’d be forgiven for mistaking Estados Criminales for a Delroy Edwards release on first listen. However, spend some time with these tunes and they start to reveal themselves as stranger and scuzzier than much of Edwards’ fare, their scuffed-up grooves leaning more towards Beau Wanzer.
