Khalab’s Zaire EP continues to journey deeper into the producer’s unique, heady brand of electronic production and high-tempo dancefloor fare. The Khalab originals here draw from a wide variety of styles. Everything from Mo Kolours’ ruminative MPC-balladry to the ultra-rhythm workouts of Clap! Clap! can be parsed from these beats, and Khalab’s futurist aesthetic also bears some resemblance to the astral travelling of Hieroglyphic Being and Sun Ra. Two remixes of Zaire’s title-track flesh the record out - Will LV’s flip balances driving house drums with ruminative atmospheres in a manner similar to Esa Williams. Meanwhile, there’s plenty of Egyptian Lover to Medlar’s version.
