Trust Steven Stapleton to turn the idea of a live album on its head. Nurse With Wound’s Dark Fat does contain material taped in concert, but it also brings together field recordings from around the performances - rehearsals, backstage chat, rehearsals and the rest, all of which was chronicled by Nurse With Wound archivist M.S. Waldron. Stapleton himself takes plenty liberties with the audio, resculpting and collaging the recordings until they take on the same bug-eyed, Joycean-concrete quality of the rest of Nurse With Wound’s incomparable catalogue.
