Is Jacaszek’s 2009 LP Pentral a set of field recordings? Or do we need another term to describe what we have here? See, these sounds were recorded in Polish churches, and as such capture the musical performances given there as well as atmospheric and accidental noises. As such, Pentral exists in a space somewhere between found sound and prepared music, embodying the experience of hearing and listening in a church environment as much as it does the sort of things heard and listened to while there. Whatever you call it, it’s quietly arresting and frequently beautiful. This Gusstaff Records version of Pentral is the first time that the album has been pressed to vinyl.
