Serial distributors of mind-blowing and envelope-pushing electronic music Where To Now? grant production experimentalist U another go-around after 2016’s Vienna Orchestra. Its brilliant follow-up Lowlands is measurably more frayed at the edges, blurring digital and organic realms with house beats and tundric drones and textures. What’s remarkable about Lowlands — and U’s production approach in general — is how differently they allow the intersection to manifest, be it with clangorous rage on ‘Don’t Fuck With The Dragon’ and ‘Storegga Slide’ or as dreamy soundscapes on ‘Arctic Eden’ and ‘Buildbase’.
