The golden touch of Dev Hynes — commonly known under his Blood Orange moniker — has known no bounds over the course of his fifteen-is year career. From anarchic synth punk to wide-lens neo-soul and indie funk, Hynes can now now add film scores to his impressive oeuvre. His original score to 2019 romantic crime drama Queen & Slim is as much a snapshot of Hynes’ contemporary interests as it is a fitting collection of music for the Melia Matsoukas picture; romance strings swell over pensive piano and electric organ phrasing, and while Hynes’ voice is nowhere to be heard, the music of Queen and Slim can’t help but scream his name.
