Everyday Madness from the master of just such things, the late Basil Kirchin. These archival recordings show off the full array of Kirchin’s singular style, one that brought together the hypnagogic reveries of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with techniques derived from musique concrete. ‘Pat’s Pigs’ is a humming drone, ‘Electronic’ one of Kirchin’s zanier sound collages. Everyday Madness closes with twenty-plus-minute ‘The Suspended Forth’, the kind of curious, off-brand library composition that only Kirchin could write.
