On new LP All The Time we find Jessy Lanza delivering perhaps the finest iteration of her offbeat pop style to date. Longtime fans of Lanza’s work will already know that the Canadian artist combines influences from R&B, synth-pop, Chicago house and footwork in a delightfully distinctive manner, and in this respect All The Time does not deviate too much from her previous LPs Oh No and Pull My Hair Back.

With longtime creative partner Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys) in tow, Lanza crafts a set of tracks here in which crisp beats are offset by wistful keyboards and her dreamy vocal style. At its smoothest the combination gives many of the tracks on All The Time a feel not dissimilar to Sade or Kelela. The tone is set on album opener ‘Anyone Around’ - while snappy programmed drums anchor a fidgety bass synth, Lanza’s lyrics search for some certainty amid confusion in her personal relationships. The sonic palette is maintained throughout the rest of the album, though tunes such as ‘Over And Over’, ‘Face’ and ‘Lick In Heaven’ push more towards the dancefloor in the same manner as Lanza classics like ‘VV Violence’ and ‘It Means I Love You’.

Jessy Lanza’s third LP All The Time is a set of idiosyncratic synth-pop which delivers all of the pop hooks, ebullient production and quixotic charm that we have come to expect from this beloved artist.
