Even by Ilian Tape’s high standards, Zeki 808’s new EP Give Thanks is a hugely impressive and innovative set of club tracks. While there is no one style that you can identify at the core of Give Thanks, these productions draw from a whole host of genres. There’s deep dub-techno in here, but also grime, trap, dirty south, the pirate-radio mish-mash of Basic Rhythm and much more besides. Zeki 808’s production style muddies the waters still, with blurts of bass punching through his hissing, slightly foggy mixes. If Jamal Moss hailed from London he might come up with something like Give Thanks. A really impressive record.
