Australian composer Jasmine Guffond’s Microphone Permission is a collection of unsettling, downright dystopian electronic compositions. The thesis of the record concerns the ways that modern technology and media monitor us - through phone microphones, for instance - and a feeling of paranoia runs through the intense drones, locked-grooves and swells of noise that make up these tracks. Holly Herndon, Karlheinz Stockhausen and György Sándor Ligeti are all brought to mind by Microphone Permission.
