From the adventurous fledgling label Zehra — and producer Bill Laswell! — comes heady dose of traditional-meets-modern deep psychedelia. The Master Musicians Of Jajouka’s 1992 hit Apocalypse Across The Sky is an astonishing work of endurance-testing ritual music, performed on traditional woodwind, string instruments and percussion, usually over the course of hours. The release sent the troupe touring beyond their native Morocco and garnered admirers in the West — chief among them Ornette Coleman, Flea, William S. Burroughs and The Rolling Stones.
