Vancouver-based singer and composer Ian William Craig returns with a deeply moving, pared back LP. Save for the presence of mood-infusing field recordings, Red Sun Through Smoke largely revolves around Craig’s tender vocal and a warm, homely piano, resulting in something about as introverted and intimate as Bon Iver’s early work, with an eye wandering outwards to glance at ecological collapse and personal loss.
