Initial Conditions is the first release from new imprint Molt Records. On the basis of this compilation EP the label’s modus operandi is to move out from a core sound of dark drum & bass and shroud adjacent genres in thick fog. DYL’s ‘YDNTKNW’ is the most rave-ready jam here, a moody and minimal d ‘n’ b joint that shares space with the UVB-76 crew, and DB1’a ‘Late Night’ does something similar. The other DB1 track here, ‘Tone’, removes the drums to invoke Prurient through caustic drone. Initial Conditions closes out with a monolithic slow-motion industrial joint from Paragon that harks to the uncompromising stuff which Kevin Martin and Justin Broadrick make as Zonal.
