DJ Trace was a key figure in the development of techstep, helping usher in the genre from its beginnings in drum ‘n’ bass back in the mid-90s. Two of DJ Trace’s key techstep joints are reissued on the Twister EP. ‘Twister’ and ‘Apocalypse’ are both nasty, rugged rollers that appear to have been separated at birth - the latter’s grizzled bassline and snarling synths are very much in the spirit of the original, albeit with a little more shake about the hi-hats. This one’s been served up on a lovely silver picture-disc vinyl by the new Tempo Records offshoot SPEED.
