Mr. Pavement himself drops his third solo studio LP. Traditional Techniques finds Stephen Malkmus in a playful mood, yet also clearly perturbed by the way that the world is going. Track titles like ‘Shadowbanned’ and ‘Brainwashed’ belie the fact that, for all of the pretty songcraft of Traditional Techniques, this is a rather concerned record. As for the music itself, Traditional Techniques is a set of bright and resonant off-beat folk in the vein of Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy/Smog/John Martyn.
