Smalltown Supersound return to Carmen Villain’s dubbed out, new age-infused ambient number Both Lines Will Be Blue with a rhythmically vibrant remix iteration on the 2019 disc. Both Lines Will Be Blue Remixed takes off in a decidedly more house-headed direction thanks to the production prowess of its six contributors, readily reimagining Villain’s world-enveloping work as underground dancefloor fire. ‘Observable Future’, for example, is rerouted with a vintage, bass-heavy 4/4 to complement its ascendent flute phrases, bursting itself open with a crunchy snare halfway through. It’s testament to Villain’s source material that so much material can be extracted from such ethereal sound.
