It’s amazing to think that the vast array of sounds on Helen Money’s new LP Atomic mostly came from a cello. Granted, they have been subjected to a lot of manipulation and post-production, but it’s still incredible to think that the thousand-yard ambiences, crashes, ethereal drones and clattering rhythms here all started with one instrument. The use of cello on Atomic might have you thinking of Arthur Russell or Oliver Coates, but the album is a far stormier affair and in fact comes closer to the likes of Chelsea Wolfe and Hilary Woods.
