Born from a chance encounter and composed of strains from modern jazz, LA beat-making and a distinctly Soviet Armenian sense for melody, Hila sees its two members — cellist Artyom Manukyan and producer Dawatile — cross countries and oceans to arrive at a totally unique experimental record. The sounds of Manukyan’s ancestral Armenia serpentine themselves around Dawatile’s crisp beats, recollecting a beat tape made entirely from original sources.
