Given that the last installment of Millsart’s Every Dog Has Its Day series came in 2003, you would be forgiven for thinking that Jeff Mills had benched the project permanently. What a nice surprise, then, that the Detroit techno legend has decided to reboot the Every Dog… project with its fifth volume. These tracks pick up where previous Millsart records left off, their soft modulars and warm synth pads softening up Mills’ technoid minimalism to create something more cerebral. Heard now it is easy to hear the influence of Millsart’s Every Dog Has Its Day records on the sound of contemporary practitioners such as Khotin and Dream Cycle.
