We Had A Good Time is another collection of dreamy electronic pop from Bullion (Nathan Jenkins). This EP is the artist’s first substantial release for three years, and he uses the five tracks of We Had A Good Time to showcase his increasingly quixotic brand of avant-garde songcraft.

There is a distinct air of sophisti-pop to the songs here. We Had A Good Time is a record which comes from the same lineage as acts like Prefab Sprout, Bambounou and Westerman - the latter of which has already released on Jenkins’ DEEK Recordings. The songs are all backboned by swooning synthesisers and clattering electronic drums, and Bullion uses these sounds to create tracks that feel at once intimate and widescreen. There is also an air of sun-drenched wooziness to many of the tones, something that stems in part from the artist’s relocation from London to Lisbon prior to creating the record.

We Had A Good Time is another Bullion release where Jenkins lets voice take centre-stage. There is a conversational, confessional air to his delivery on tracks like ‘We Had A Good Time’ which is disarming and charming. Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard is a good comparison, as is the chattier end of Arthur Russell’s output.

Bullion’s new EP We Had A Good Time furthers the artist’s case as one of contemporary music’s premiere art-pop practitioners.
