Right, here's the thing - if you have a track called ‘CHONKIBOI’ on your record, chances are we are going to be fans. That tune in question, a jacking big room techno tool, is a characteristic number from rising producer/DJ and new Mute Records signing HAAi. Much of the rest of her new EP Systems Up, Windows Down operates off in a similar mode. Cuts such as ‘Don't Flatter Yourself Love’ and ‘Stop Looking At Me Swan’ combine hefty kicks, rolling shuffles and all sorts of atmospheric, dubbed-out production tricks. The end result is pitched somewhere between Clouds’ dystopian techno aesthetic of and the wacky big beat of golden-age Basement Jaxx.
