Steven Rutter rocks up on Exalt Records with new two-tracker ‘Light From The Dark’. What we have here is some of the most deft and detailed work that Rutter has produced so far in his highly promising career. Rather than going in for the same air of dystopian strangeness that he has previously invoked, both ‘In The Darkness’ and ‘The Sands Of Time’ murmur and stutter, their grooves keeping plenty back while reeling you in with mysterious rhythms and little flutters of melody. It’s hugely evocative stuff that has us thinking as much of fourth-world techno as it does of, say, a fellow Exalt act like UNKLE.
