Flørist ended 2019 strongly - his 4 Letter Word EP for The Trilogy Tapes was a fine set of leftfield drum-techno - and it appears that he is keen to take this momentum into the new decade. New EP Optimist sees Flørist switching up his production moniker to Pavilion, and this self-released set also brings about a slight change in musical style. While opener ‘X_0314’ is a grainy yet harmonious synthetic ambience, both ‘Greenspirit’ and ‘Optimist’ quicken the pulse of the Flørist sound, the former bringing a deep, vaguely disco-fied house loop up to around 135 bpm while the record’s title number is a squeaky techno thing that wouldn’t sound out of place on Bunker Records.
