Brothers Nick and Jordan Smart, best known as members of contemporary jazz innovators Mammal Hands, arrive in the form of Sunda Arc. Their LP Tides neatly showcases a point of departure from their day-job band duties, doubling down on neo-classical and electronic influences and crafting some tunes you’d expect to hear from the likes of Jon Hopkins and Rival Consoles. ‘Another Life’ soundtracks an imaginary movie with soaring strings, as the patter of electronics slowly weave their way through, later to be drawn out over pattering minimalist grooves on ‘Dawn’ and ‘Everything At Once’.
