After a couple of releases on Occult Research, Bewwip now debuts on Analogical Force with the E Drive EP. Across these five tracks we find Bewwip evolving the sonic style of those legendary mid-2000s releases that Aphex Twin/AFX dropped via Analord. This is a set of squiggling IDM-electro that occasionally lets its freak flag fly.

The most straight-down-the-line jams here are ‘Squidgycid4’ and ‘Block By Block’. Both of these tracks feature pleasingly chunky 808s topped off by a selection of chirruping synths and muted, droning keys. It’s chipper stuff that’ll really put a spring in your step. Meanwhile ‘BS3’ slows things down to make them funkier - despite the track’s slightly sombre harmonic disposition, the way that the groove struts forward gives this cut some real snap.

On both ‘Wrgv Compile’ and ‘Finally Early 2 6b 1’ we find Bewwip throwing caution to the wind, albeit in different ways. The latter track is by far the quickest cut here, a frantic bit of breakcore that would make Squarepusher blush. By contrast ‘Wrgv Compile’ has more in common with the other tracks of E Drive - the difference here is the manner in which Bewwip is constantly shuffling the drum sounds, causing them to break up and trip over each other.

Mysterious producer Bewwip turns in a distinctive set of IDM jams on E Drive, the producer’s first EP for Analogical Force.
