Seasoned Muslimgauze fans may have a passing knowledge of the tracks on Lalique Gadaffi Handgrenade, the latest posthumous release to emerge from the Bryn Jones archive. Opener ‘Arab Jerusalem’ originally appeared on a 1996 7” - though that version ran to less than six minutes while the take here clocks in at more than twenty - while ‘Desert Gulag’ hints at ‘Negev Gulag’ from Jones’ Farah Guerilla LP (also 1996). As a whole, though, Lalique Gadaffi Handgrenade is an intriguing new addition to the Muslimgauze catalogue. It’s also one that visits many corners of the project’s very specific soundworld, from arid industrial electronics to rhythmic noise and anti-techno.
