This is reggaeton, but not as you know it. Genre experimentalists DJ Clara! and Maoupa Mazzocchetti follow up 2018’s debut EP Meneo and Clara!’s 2019 single ‘Meiga de Acero’ with another slice of short-circuited dancehall madness in Luna Nueva. Their full LP proper is as bold an opening statement of Caribbean futurism as one can make; the drops are chasms-deep and the bombast never lets up, Clara!’s vocal floating atop the rigorously-contained chaos like a fighter jet seeking its target. What’s more, Luna Nueva makes establishing a new electronic world order seem like the only way forward.
