Recorded during a week-long residency at Berlin’s Tischlerei Deutsch Oper, Matthew Herbert's The Recording finds the composer indulging both the more abstract and more dancefloor-focused sides of his practice. ‘Day Three’ sees Herbert channelling the shuffling house that he came up within the 90s through the prism of Brandt Brauer Frick’s cut-and-paste micro-looping. Herbert becomes more impressionistic on ‘Day Five’ and ‘Day Seven’, the sounds of his piano mixing with a multitude of field recordings made both by the artist himself and audience members who passed through the residency.
