First LP from Madteo in fully seven years here. Dropped Out Sunshine is a curious and quixotic anti-club record, one that occasionally heads to the floor but is far more comfortable skulking in the shadow. Cuts like ‘Evol On’ and ‘1 4 U’ chop and screw more vigorously than Texan legends like DJ Screw; ‘Reach The Bourgeois But Still Rock The Boulevard’ and ‘No Secrets’ are hazed, impassive house joints in the vein of Don’t DJ and Shinichi Atobe; other tracks here draw on everyone from Huerco S. to Hype Williams, Textasy to Andy Stott. Really interesting album this, highly recommended.
