Athens, Georgia was reeling from the hip new thing, alternative rock, in the shape of Pylon. Rising in near tandem with REM and the B-52s’, with very little interest in global indie rock superstardom, Pylon formed in 1979 with a view to kicking post-punk full of American rock sensibility. In celebration of the group’s 40th anniversary, their essential debut 7”, ‘Cool’, backed by ‘Dub’, is an unrelenting force of big guitar prowess.
