After cranking out a run of superb 7” singles, Dan Carey’s Speedy Wunderground imprint now presents this EP in the form of Squid’s Town Centre. This band have been hotly-tipped as the next big thing in British post-punk, and tracks like ‘Match Bet’ and ‘The Cleaner’ certainly spark with the livewire energy of Magazine and The Fall. However, there are also more abstract ventures here - the very slowest end of Fat White Family’s discography for one, but also Lounge Lizards-style avant-jazz and some almost Caretaker-esque drone. Hugely interesting.
