We bet you didn’t know that renowned NYC painter Jean Michel-Basquiat was also a dab hand at music. Made with a characteristically irreverent hand, Gray’s Shades Of… collates the multiple heady compositions of the artist-helmed musical project, showcasing deep, echoed dub-adjacent noise exercises sure to rival anything else in the no-wave strata. As if this release’s trove of unreleased material wasn’t tantalising enough, it also features loving remixes by Hank Shocklee, Tewz and, most surprisingly of all, Todd Rundgren.
