Brian Close delivers a set of delightfully unusual drum-techno with this EP (simply entitled EP). Tracks like ‘Harrakat’ and ‘Harmointel’ are full of busy tuned percussion melodies and propulsive, almost breathless beat programming. While rooted in techno, these tracks also draw from sounds as wide-ranging as Batida, Singeli and gqom. The arid reverb that haunts ‘Base K’ also hints at a dub-techno influence, though another rolling rhythm means that the label doesn’t really stick. Close has made a highly distinctive record here.
