Of all the great records to emerge from the glut of young, fresh jazz musicians that have come to prominence in recent years, Makaya McCraven’s In The Moment might just be the coolest. There is an effortless swagger to McCraven’s 2015 LP that is the sort of thing you can’t teach. Orchestrating proceedings from behind the kit, McCraven’s music is a fine example of the post-Robert Glasper/Roots school of hip-hop-flavoured jazz. This deluxe edition of In The Moment bolsters the LP’s ten tracks with nine bonus cuts.
