One of the earlier releases on Grouper’s own Yellow Electric imprint, 2011 LP A I A: Alien Observer now gets the reissue treatment courtesy of Grouper’s new label Kranky. At this point in time the one born Liz Harris was just beginning to see her ultra-dreamy brand of droning shoegaze pop trickle into the wider consciousness, and A I A: Alien Observer was a key record in helping establish her as a unique talent who needed to be heard. From the degraded, Caretaker-esque opener ‘Moon Is Sharp’ to fragile closer ‘Come Softly (For Daniel Dalzell), A I A: Alien Observer is the sort of rapture that only Harris could deliver.
