Soul Jazz Records come through with the goods again, in this instance a reissue of Steve Reid’s 1976 LP Rhythmatism. This is a set of hard post-bop from the drummer, composer and bandleader. Unsurprisingly given the album’s title, rhythm is the organising principle here. Tracks such as ‘Kai’ shuffle with the multi-drum potency of Horace Tapscott And The Pan-Afrikan Peoples Arkestra’s Live at I.U.C.C. - itself another recent Soul Jazz re-pressing.
