Xasthur is an incredible character. Working in complete isolation his music expresses a cold, incredibly misanthropic agenda, creating incredibly bleak music. The thing about Xasthur is that it's just one person, Malefic, who's previously vocalled Sunn's bleakest moment Black 1.

He plays all the instruments and records them track on track into fuzzed out mini operas of utter desolation and misery. For this album, replacing the scuzzy drum machine he used to use his learnt drums and also cello. The music echoes Burzum's prison based lo-fi darkness, but there are no allusions to Norwegian folk religion here or anything like that, this is straight up sorrowful repulsion and hatred, even if there are sophisticated passages of operatic, black atmosphere and Wagnarian melodrama, i'm suprised the guy hasn't topped himself ages ago.

The closest in the musical world you'll hear to these guys I think are Burial or Ariel Pink. Xasthur's intentions are far more single minded and hateful though.
