The fifth installment in Jeff Mills’ The Director’s Cut series once again finds the Detroit legend asking us to focus on some of the more niche tracks in his back catalogue. As is the case with all of the Director’s Cut EPs, Chapter 5 spans a rather wide time-frame - ‘L8’ dates from 1999, ‘Above Waiting Worlds’ from 2006, and ‘Solar Cycles’ from 2015. Despite all being made several years apart there is a uniformity of spirit to these tunes that emphasises just how committed Mills has been to perfecting his particular brand of minimal techno. This is psychedelic, hypnotic club fare from one of the best in the business.
