This latest Central Processing Unit release divides neatly down the middle. The first four tracks of 96 Back’s Issue In Surreal are all from the up-and-coming producer himself. These are scuzzy, squelching and slightly malevolent electro tools that draw from the Bleep-beat style of Sheffield, the city in which 96 Back was raised. Occasionally the record veers off into IDM-ish breakbeat - check ‘My Time Here’ on this count. The second half of Issue In Surreal features some of 96 Back’s related artists all piling in for remix duties. Jensen Interceptor offers up a slamming edit of ‘Knock Out’, Happa & Jabes channel Mr. Mitch for their take on ‘My Time Here’, and both Sync 24 and Volruptus keep it electroid for their tunes.
