Nino Pedone creates a fearsome sound on Aesthesis, his first Shapednoise LP for Numbers. Across nine tracks here the Sicilian artist and Cosmo Rhythmatic/Repitch Recordings high-flyer mutates noise, techno, rave and power electronics into agonised new forms. Many of these tracks rumble and screech as if they’re just about keeping a lid on some undead souls being held captive underneath. At points all hell threatens to break loose, with cuts like ‘CXr Aureal’ and ‘Blasting Super Melt’ barely-controlled chaos in the Amnesia Scanner mould. Given the sounds that Shapednoise dishes out here it’s no surprise that artists such as Justin K Broadrick, Mhysa, Drew McDowall and Rabit all wanted to get involved in making Aesthesis.
