Tawiah has been on the come-up for a few years now, but it has taken her some time to get round to releasing her debut LP Starts Again. However, this collection of rousing contemporary soul tunes proves to be more than worth the wait. Tawiah has toured with Moses Sumney and collaborated with Blood Orange, and on this record she demonstrates a similar desire to write neo-soul numbers that are both richly harmonious and quietly boundary-pushing. Strong hip-hop and gospel influences can also be detected across Starts Again.
