Having already long established herself as a go-to session pianist and arranger, only catapulting into disco fame later in her career, it’s hard to believe Patrice Rushen hadn’t planned to become a star. 1980’s Posh is a sort of moment zero for Rushen as a performer, building up the watershed moment of 1982’s timeless ‘Forget Me Nots’ with some of her most wildly underrated work, including the sublime funk of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up (Won’t Let You Be)’.
