Optimistics’ only LP, a 1970 eponymous effort, is a set of lush soul from the Baltimore group. At times the record kicks hard - ‘Man’, for instance, is a great example of early funk, while ‘If I Could Influence Man’ is a hard-biting strut. However, Optimistics’ finest tracks are its softest - the woozy reveries ‘Let’s Love’ and ‘You Put Something New In My Life’ to name but two. With ‘Should I Let Myself Go’ sampled by Knxwledge. in recent times, now feels like a good moment for Optimistics to be given a new vinyl pressing by Be With Records.
