Yorkshire-born composer and producer Kirk Barley returns with a short form exercise in radical exoticism. But don’t let its brevity turn you off — in fact, it’s part of its great strength. Across a tight 34 minutes, Landscapes unfolds into multiple works far larger than their scant runtime, fit to burst with reams of colour thanks to Barley’s enormously personal approach to production, bolstered by loops and flourishes — occasionally grounded indelibly to earth by Matt Davies’ live percussion.
