Gary Gritness is on a roll. Despite only releasing his LP The Legend Of Cherekov Blue back in April, Gritness has returned under the name of The Gritness Acoustronics with new album Mahakali. This is a quietly ambitious record that seeks to transplant the work of Don Cherry from jazz trio to synth, sax and drum machine. The experiment ends up with a proggy set of synth-funk that is compelling in its strangeness. Malian kora player Ballake Sissoko guests on ‘Universal Mother’.
